Stuck in an office job, feeling increasingly trapped and desperate, an office clerk embarks>on a journey fighting for his independence and identity against the stifling corporartion. 

The work is the first phase of the ArtsBridge International Exchange piece. ArtsBridge is a collaboration with Wings Theatre Company in the USA and is the creative wing of Quest Visual Theatre. This piece will travel to Washington D.C. early next year, where it will be developed further, in collaboration with Wings for the Quest Fest in February before bringing it back to the National Arts Festival and a South African tour.

It showcases its first draft at the Intimate Theatre in November 2011.

A timid middle-aged clerk. A reclusive widow. A young Zimbabwean refugee. In the Mother City, three desperate and lonely individuals get drawn into an unlikely relationship that will lead them on a journey of discovery, companionship, tragedy, and reconciliation – one that will ultimately transform their lives forever.

Benchmarks is a poetic celebration of the human spirit told by three performers in full character mask.

It premières on the Main Programme at the National Arts Festival.

Shortcuts

Shortcuts is an investigation and exploration into the use of Mask work. The show comprises of different recognisable scenarios of our everyday life taking you from an onset of laughter to the heartbreak of love- the show covers a large range of emotions and up to 8 different characters to express them. Devised and directed by Jayne Batzofin; featuring Marlon Snyders, Christopher Beukes, Tomri Steyn and Sinethemba Mgebisa. Next touring in Gauteng, Kwazulu-Natal and the Western Cape.
